The hypocrisy of these sudden Russia hawks is breathtaking.
To that end, over the few days I’ve been asked a number of times about the hypocrisy of liberals going bonkers over Donald Trump Jr.’s alleged Russian contacts in comparison to their decades-long ignoring of Sen. Ted Kennedy’s Russia contacts. It’s an important comparison.
First, let’s consider the revelations over Donald Trump Jr.’s email exchanges last June with some fellow named Rob Goldstone. For the record, the emails are not good. When you read the email thread, you can see why liberals are yapping and yelling and circling the waters. Here’s the gist:

Ted Kennedy Made Secret Overtures to Russia to Prevent Ronald Reagan’s Re-Election

Sen. Edward “Ted” Kennedy had “selfish political and ideological motives” when he made secret overtures to the Soviet Union’s spy agency during the Cold War to thwart then-President Ronald Reagan’s re-election, a Reagan biographer said in an interview with The Daily Signal.
When they came to light years later, Kennedy’s secret contacts with the Russians through their KGB spy agency in the early 1980s didn’t cause nearly the tizzy that Russia’s alleged interference with this year’s election has for President-elect Donald Trump among liberal activists and reporters.

On Russia, Democrats Try To Rewrite History

There's a case to be made that in every way, save rhetoric, the president has been tougher on Russia than his predecessor.

This week, CNN fact checked Donald Trump’s recent claim that he had been tougher on Russia than Barack Obama. “(No he wasn’t)” maintained the cheeky chyron. Though the network fancies itself the arbiter of truth in the Era of Trump — apples and bananas and all that — this particular contention is, at the very least, debatable. In fact, there’s a good case to be made that in nearly every way, save rhetoric, the president has been tougher on Russia than his predecessor.

It’s the Democrats who Collude with the Russians

Are those pushing the Trump/Russian collusion conspiracy living in Alice in Wonderland or what? Accepting this conspiracy narrative requires both the suspension of common sense and the collective amnesia about the history of Democrats’ actions that have earned favor from Soviet and Russian leadership over past decades and right up to the present.           
Vladimir Putin is shrewd, calculating, and fairly predictable. If he were serious about influencing the outcome of the November 2016 U.S. presidential election, he would not have favored the relatively unknown and impulsive Donald Trump, who had no history of doing favors for Putin or Russia. It is far more likely Putin would have chosen to help Hillary Clinton -- the known, predictable, progressive candidate with a history of helping Russian interests.
